Alabama Woman Mauled to Death While Feeding Dogs for Absent Owner; No Charges Expected for Owner

Honk News (Montgomery, AL) –  This week, a tragic incident occurred in Alabama where a woman lost her life after being attacked by a group of dogs while she was feeding them in the absence of their owner.

On Thursday, February 6, at 9 a.m. local time, deputies from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a dog attack at a residence, accompanied by NorthStar EMS, the Echola Volunteer Fire Department, and animal control officers, as reported by various sources.

A report indicated that a woman was being attacked by a group of dogs in front of a property, according to multiple sources. When they arrived, deputies tried to save her life, but unfortunately, the woman did not make it. At the age of 46, she was in a significant phase of her life.

Authorities from the Violent Crimes Unit in Tuscaloosa carried out an investigation at the location. The investigation revealed that the dogs were part of the household, where the woman had come to provide care for the pets during their owner’s absence.

Capt. Jack Kennedy from the Violent Crimes Unit informed AL.com that authorities will withhold further details regarding the woman to honor her family’s privacy. No criminal charges are anticipated, he noted.

“I always thought of dogs as man’s best friend, but I think these were the type of dogs that were very aggressive in some way,” he said. “And it was so unfortunate and disconcerting … trying to revive the person who was not coming back.”

Six months after a tragic incident involving a 62-year-old woman in Tuscaloosa County, another attack has occurred, this time involving a family dog, as reported in July.

Officials from the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit disclosed that they discovered the woman deceased within a dog pen close to the Berry area, shortly after a relative made a 911 call. The dog was ultimately euthanized.
