Lightsabers at the ready: Ahsoka Tano will finally have her own show on Disney+ as the Star Wars universe grows. After the character made her live-action debut in The Mandalorian season two, the female-focused Star Wars show was confirmed. During the animated show Clone Wars, she first became a fan favorite.
But what will happen to the former Jedi apprentice, and how much will Anakin Skywalker be a part of the new story? Here’s all the information you need…
When Will Ahsoka Premiere on Disney?
Ahsoka will make its Disney+ debut in August 2023. The series is expected to release episodes weekly, similar to other Star Wars series. We don’t have a specific release date yet, but fans are excited because the release month was confirmed at Star Wars Celebration.
Ahsoka Plot: What will happen?
The official Ahsoka synopsis reveals very little about the plot. “Set after the fall of the Empire, “Ahsoka” follows former Jedi knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.”
According to reports, the series is a sort of follow-up to the cliffhanger ending of the animated series Star Wars: Rebels. That series ended with Sabine and Ahsoka vowing to find their compatriot, Ezra Bridger, and given that he (and their former foe, Grand Admiral Thrawn) are both in the show, this seems like a logical path for Ahsoka to take.
Ahsoka Cast: Who’s Joining?
An Ahsoka Tano series would be incomplete without Ahsoka Tano, and Rosario Dawson is reprising her role as the character she first played in The Mandalorian. Savannah Steyn (House of the Dragon, Intergalactic) is also said to play a younger version of the character in the show.
Hayden Christensen, who most recently played Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi, is also expected to play Anakin Skywalker. Ahsoka trained under Darth Vader, and it’s expected that Christensen will appear in flashbacks (especially since Ahsoka takes place after Vader’s death in Return of the Jedi). However, it’s possible that he’s playing a Force Ghost version of his character.
Eman Esfandi and Natasha Liu Bordizzo have been cast as Ezra Bridger and Sabine Wren, respectively. Grand Admiral Thrawn, the legendary Star Wars villain, also makes his live-action debut, as played by Lars Mikkelsen, who previously voiced the character in animated form.
Ray Stevenson will also play Baylon Skoll, an ex-Jedi who escaped Order 66 and joined forces with Grand Admiral Thrawn. Shin Hati, his apprentice, is played here by Ivanna Sakhno.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ivanna teased a little more about her character. “Shin is quite an intense and ambitious Force-wielder,” she said, adding, “I hope that despite her darkness of a character, we’re able to also expand our understanding of that darkness within someone and the reason behind it.”
Additional casting includes:
- Hera Syndulla is played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
- Mon Mothma is played by Genevieve O’Reilly.
- Huyang (voice performance) by David Tennant
- Mogan Elsbeth is played by Diana Lee Inosanto.
- Senator Xiono is played by Nelson Lee.
- Senator Rodrigo is played by Jacqueline Antaramian, and Captain Enoch is played by Wes Chatham.

How Many Episodes of Ahsoka Will There Be?
There will be eight episodes in the first season of Ahsoka. The future of the upcoming spin-off to The Mandalorian is uncertain, as no further seasons have been announced. Dave Filioni, co-creator of Ahsoka, will write all episodes and direct three of them.
Other than Rick Famuyiwa and Jennifer Getzinger, episodes will be directed by Steph Green, Geeta Patel, Peter Ramsey, and Peter Ramsey.
