Adoptive Family Returns Dog to Grateful Original Owner who was Desperately Searching for Pet in Brazoria County

A touching tale of kindness and coming together emerged featuring a dog named Penny.

Penny, a cherished companion, found her way to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Brazoria County after her escape, where she was welcomed into a new home eager to bring happiness to their little one.

Two weeks later, they discovered that Penny’s original owner, Julie Ann, had been frantically looking for her.

The family had developed a deep bond with Penny, but upon discovering Julie Ann’s quest, they chose to selflessly connect through Facebook to facilitate Penny’s return.

Julie Ann was overwhelmed by their generosity and found herself in tears.

“They did that from the bottom of their hearts without anyone forcing them,” she said. “It felt really good to know there are still good people out there.”

The family organized the reunion during their child’s absence, aiming to shield them from the heartache of farewells.

During the handover, the family conveyed the profound struggle they faced, stating, “It broke our hearts more, knowing that we might be breaking our child’s heart too.”

Julie Ann was navigating her feelings during the gathering. She struggled to contain her emotions as she reunited with Penny. Julie Ann understood the profound nature of the family’s sacrifice and shared in their emotions as they said goodbye to Penny, who had grown so close to their hearts.

Julie expressed, “It was bittersweet because I felt bad for [the family] because [Penny] is a very lovable dog… she’s a very hard dog to not want to give up.”

Julie Ann expressed her heartfelt sympathy for the family, embraced them warmly, and conveyed her gratitude.

She thanked KPRC 2 for their coverage, which played a crucial role in reuniting her with Penny by encouraging the SPCA to contact the adoptive family.

“It took me contacting [KPRC 2] before [SPCA of Brazoria County] even agreed to reach out to the adopter.” Julie Ann said.
