Abducted Babies Found Safe in Ditch Thanks to Alert Indiana Man

A man from Indiana is being recognized for his heroic act after discovering two infants who were taken during a car theft.

On Monday, Dec. 2, Robert Deane found two baby car seats in a ditch while picking up a package outside his home in southeast Indianapolis. He approached and found two baby girls in the chairs, who had been taken in the stolen car earlier that day.

The duration the babies spent outside remains unclear, but reports indicate the temperature dropped to 27 degrees. Deane’s residence was located approximately four miles from where the theft occurred.

On Monday, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department announced on X (formerly Twitter) that they were actively searching for a vehicle that had been stolen with two babies, aged 4 months and 5 months, inside.

The vehicle has the plate number 364CMU. Authorities are urging anyone who spots this vehicle to contact 911 right away. The car was reported stolen from a residence on East Gimber Street around 11 a.m. that day.

Authorities received a report about two infants being in a stolen 2013 Hyundai Sonata, but upon locating the car, they found it was unoccupied. This occurred roughly when Deane contacted the authorities to report that he had discovered the two girls, CBS4 Indy noted.

Police continue their search for the individual responsible for the vehicle theft.
