A powerful storm that swept through the Austin area on Wednesday evening caused extensive damage and left thousands without power.
According to the Austin Energy website, the storm damaged electrical equipment and broke tree limbs, leaving over 60,000 customers without power as of 10 p.m. According to the utility’s website, there is no expected date for when power will be restored.
Some structures were also damaged.
Several reporters reported on social media Wednesday that a glass panel in the Capitol had been blasted out, and water was flowing inside the building.
At a petrol station on Greystone Drive in North Austin, the canopy over the pumps collapsed on top of a vehicle.
