A popular Garden City street has reopened after a police investigation into a road rage incident near the Expo Idaho grounds.
According to a Garden City Police Department news release, the victim informed officers that he was driving an SUV north on North Glenwood Street when someone on a racing motorcycle pulled out a revolver.
According to law authorities, the motorcycle rode carelessly through traffic to draw alongside the SUV near the Riverside Drive intersection. The SUV driver then bumped the suspect by opening the door, “causing him to travel slightly forward and fall over,” according to police.
According to authorities, the guy then got up and fired his revolver three times, damaging the SUV’s windshield.
Officers from the Garden City and Boise police departments arrived at the site at noon. They found one of the suspects at a nearby company and another near Glenwood and Riverside.
“This senseless incident could have ended with an innocent person being shot,” Garden City Police Chief Cory Stambaugh said in a statement. “As the valley expanded, traffic congestion worsened. Please be patient on your journey, and if you believe you are the victim of a road rage incident, contact the police.”
The police department also stated that the suspect had split lanes, which is an illegal maneuver in Idaho that involves a motorcycle driving between traffic lanes. Glenwood is a popular route that runs between Chinden Boulevard in Garden City and State route in Boise, with two lanes of traffic in each direction and a turn lane in the middle.
The guy was booked into the Ada County Courthouse on allegation of felony aggravated assault. He will be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. Thursday.
Police temporarily asked traffic to avoid the area as they investigated, and Glenwood was reduced to one lane going both north and south. The Boise Police Department told the Idaho Statesman that the road was fully reopened by 2:30 p.m.
