A 63-year-old has been detained in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision in Las Vegas

Las Vegas — Nearly three weeks after a deadly hit-and-run in the Las Vegas valley, police apprehended a suspect in the collision.

Karen Cannon, 63, was arrested by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers for the hit-and-run that killed 33-year-old Patrick Deloriea while he was riding a skateboard on May 13.

According to Las Vegas police, Cannon was driving a Tesla approximately 1:20 a.m. near the intersection of Rainbow Boulevard and Vegas Drive. Preliminary information indicated that Cannon was traveling south on Rainbow near the intersection with Vegas Drive.

Deloriea was on his skateboard, attempting to cross Rainbow on the north side of the crossroads, when the Tesla struck him. Medical workers arrived on the scene, and despite efforts to save his life, Deloriea died as a result of his injuries.

Police stated Cannon did not stop at the site or tell them. On Wednesday, June 4, police found and arrested Cannon.

According to court records, Cannon is charged with careless driving resulting in death or bodily harm, failing to stop at the site of an accident, and destroying or concealing evidence.

She was jailed in the Clark County Detention Center on a $7,000 bail. Her next initial court appearance is planned for Thursday, June 5.

The collision was the 66th fatal traffic event in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for 2025.
