A Kearns woman has been arrested for murder after a man was found dead with a stab wound on a neighborhood sidewalk in West Valley City, Utah, early Thursday morning. Police say the victim and suspect had been in a relationship and were involved in a confrontation hours before the body was discovered.
Body Found on Neighborhood Sidewalk Early Thursday
According to the West Valley City Police Department, a neighbor walking near 3900 South and 4500 West discovered the body around 7:30 a.m. The victim, identified as 45-year-old Jose Humberto Alvarado, was found with a fatal stab wound.
The resident who found the body said it was lying near their fence. Longtime neighbor Sylvia Feleti, who has lived in the area for two decades, described the shock of waking up to a police presence outside her home.
“They just told us it was on the side of our fence, there was a body… We never felt like we had to have cameras, because nothing has ever happened,” Feleti said. “It was crazy. You see a lot of things happening on the news, but you never think that it would be so close to home.”
Suspect Identified as Victim’s Girlfriend
Police arrested 39-year-old Fabiola Lara of Kearns, who they say was the girlfriend of the victim. Investigators reported that Lara and Alvarado had attended a party together earlier in the night on Atlas Way.
Around 1:30 a.m., officers were called to the home when Alvarado was allegedly caught removing leggings from an 11-year-old female relative of Lara. Police responded, but Alvarado had already fled the scene.
Confrontation May Have Led to Deadly Stabbing
According to investigators, before leaving the home, Lara and Alvarado got into a confrontation in front of the residence. Police suspect that during this altercation, Lara stabbed Alvarado.
Alvarado then left on foot and walked through the neighborhood until he collapsed and died from his injuries on Thayn Drive, where he was later found.
Ongoing Investigation in Quiet Neighborhood
West Valley City Police are continuing to investigate the timeline of events and gather evidence, including canvassing nearby homes for surveillance footage. Residents say the area is typically quiet, amplifying the impact of Thursday’s discovery. Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding Lara’s charges or her first court appearance.
