SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A 30-year-old San Antonio woman was arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly driving while intoxicated with five children in her vehicle and backing into a police patrol car, according to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD).
Incident at Riverside Drive Apartment Complex
Police said officers responded to an apartment complex on Riverside Drive near East Southcross Boulevard following reports of a disturbance involving a tow truck driver and the suspect, identified as Sky Gomez.
According to an SAPD report, Gomez told officers that the tow truck driver was attempting to harm her. However, the driver said the argument began after he walked behind Gomez’s vehicle, prompting her to allegedly chase him in her car, attempting to run him down.
Officers Discover Children in Vehicle
When officers arrived, they found Gomez still sitting in her vehicle with five children inside, ranging in age from 1 to 10 years old.
Police said when they activated their emergency lights to make contact, Gomez reversed her vehicle into a patrol car. Officers reported smelling alcohol on her breath when she exited the vehicle.
Arrest and Charges
Gomez was taken into custody and booked into the Bexar County Jail on charges of driving while intoxicated and five counts of child endangerment.
Authorities have not confirmed the relationship between Gomez and the children. The Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) said Monday night that the children are not currently in its custody but did not disclose whether an investigation had been launched.
Investigation Continues
Police say no serious injuries were reported in the incident, though the investigation remains ongoing.
