PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Police have arrested a 53-year-old man in connection with the suspicious death of a 93-year-old resident found stabbed inside his home in Philadelphia’s Logan section.
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, Coy Thomas, 53, was taken into custody Sunday near 22nd and Lehigh avenues and has been charged with murder in the killing of Lafayette Dailey.
Victim Found Dead Inside His Home
Authorities said officers discovered Dailey’s body last week inside his home on the 4500 block of North 16th Street. Investigators determined he had been fatally stabbed.
Police also reported that Dailey’s car and wallet were missing at the time of the discovery. His vehicle was later recovered by detectives.
Investigation and Arrest
Following an extensive search, investigators identified Thomas as the primary suspect. Details on a possible motive have not yet been released, but officials confirmed that Thomas is believed to have acted alone.
The Philadelphia Police Department said Thomas was arrested without incident and remains in custody as the homicide investigation continues.
Residents in the Logan neighborhood expressed shock over the killing of the well-known elderly man, describing Dailey as “kind” and “respected in the community.”
