MERCED, Calif. — A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 16-year-old Davarion Granados in Merced last month, according to the Merced Police Department.
Arrest Made in November Homicide
Police identified the suspect as Eric Beavers, who was taken into custody Monday morning after officers executed a search warrant in Merced around 8 a.m. Beavers is now facing charges related to Granados’ murder, which occurred on November 19, 2025.
The shooting took place at an apartment complex near U Street and Fourth Street, where officers found Granados suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite emergency efforts, the teen died at the scene.
Victim Remembered
Family members identified the victim as Davarion Granados, a Merced teen described as kind and full of life. His mother, Maria Granados, told Action News that her son was walking back to his apartment after spending time with friends when he was shot.
“He was on the phone with his dad when it happened,” Maria said. “He was just coming home.”
The tragedy has left the community grieving as loved ones continue to seek justice for the 16-year-old.
Investigation and Possible Motive
Police say the case is being investigated as possibly gang-related, though the exact motive remains under review. Detectives have not released details about what led up to the shooting or how Beavers may have been connected to the victim.
