Eight Philly Youth Football Players Face Felony Charges After Alleged Theft in Florida

DAVENPORT, Fla. — Eight teenagers from a Philadelphia youth football team were arrested in Polk County, Florida, after allegedly stealing more than $2,000 worth of sporting goods while in the state for a championship game, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Alleged Theft at Dick’s Sporting Goods

Deputies say the incident happened around 10:55 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2025, at the Dick’s Sporting Goods in Posner Plaza in Davenport. The suspects — all between 14 and 15 years old and members of Philly’s United Thoroughbreds youth football team — reportedly entered the store together.

According to investigators, one teen made a small purchase at the register while the others walked a round the store. The group then allegedly began placing merchandise into a Dick’s store bag.

Three teens attempted to leave the store with the stolen goods, while five others remained inside. Deputies intervened before the teens could escape, recovering $2,296.07 worth of stolen merchandise, including items hidden inside a bag and a backpack.

Arrests and Charges

All eight juveniles were taken into custody and transported to a juvenile detention center in Polk County. Each faces two felony charges:

  • Retail Theft Over $750
  • Conspiracy to Commit Retail Theft

Authorities confirmed that the teens were participating in a youth football championship in Florida at the time of the incident.

Sheriff’s Office Statement

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that organized retail theft remains a serious offense, even for minors, especially when premeditated or involving multiple participants.

Deputies credited quick action from store employees and responding officers for preventing the suspects from fleeing with the merchandise.
