LA PINE, Ore. — Both directions of U.S. Highway 97 are closed just north of First Street in La Pine following a crash Wednesday afternoon, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT).
Crash Shuts Down Both Lanes
ODOT confirmed the closure at approximately 4:30 p.m., reporting that northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 97 were shut down due to a collision. Officials have not yet released details on the number of vehicles involved or whether any injuries occurred.
Detour in Place
To keep traffic moving, ODOT has established a detour using Burgess Road and Huntington Road, directing vehicles around the closure zone north of La Pine. Motorists traveling through the area should expect delays and are urged to drive cautiously while navigating detour routes.
“Expect delays in the area,” ODOT said in a statement Wednesday evening.
Investigation and Ongoing Updates
The Oregon State Police and ODOT crews remain on the scene managing traffic and clearing the roadway. The duration of the closure is currently unknown, and the highway will reopen once authorities complete their investigation and debris removal.
This is a developing story, and further updates — including official cause and potential injuries — are expected as information becomes available.
