CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The National Weather Service (NWS) Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a special weather statement warning of patchy dense fog across portions of the North Carolina Piedmont and South Carolina Upstate early Monday morning. The alert remains in effect until 7 a.m. Monday, December 1, 2025.
Areas Under the Fog Advisory
The advisory includes Rowan, Cleveland, Lincoln, Gaston, Mecklenburg, and Cabarrus counties, where visibility has dropped sharply overnight. Reports indicate that visibility has fallen below 1 mile in several locations, with some areas experiencing conditions as low as ¼ mile—especially along the Interstate 85 corridor.
NWS Warning and Safety Guidance
According to the NWS, the dense fog developed shortly after midnight and is expected to persist into the early morning commute. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling, as fog may appear suddenly and reduce visibility over short distances.
“Visibility may drop suddenly and over short distances,” the NWS said. “If driving, increase your following distance and turn on your low-beam headlights.”
The fog is likely to linger until rush hour before gradually improving as temperatures rise and sunlight returns later in the morning.
Commuter Impact and Outlook
Drivers heading out early Monday should plan for extra travel time and use caution on major routes, including I-85, I-77, and connecting state highways. Reduced visibility could affect travel through Charlotte, Concord, and surrounding communities.
No major weather hazards are expected after the fog lifts, though forecasters continue to monitor conditions for any lingering low clouds or moisture.
