Storm Team 3 Forecast: Freeze Warning Tonight, Warmer Sunday Ahead of Next Week’s Rain

SAVANNAH, Ga. — A frigid start to the weekend is underway across southeast Georgia, with overnight freezing temperatures expected before milder and wetter weather returns early next week, according to Storm Team 3 meteorologist Jeff Vorick.

Freeze Warning in Effect

The National Weather Service has issued a Freeze Warning from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday for Appling, Bacon, Jeff Davis, and Wayne counties. Temperatures are expected to dip below freezing overnight, with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s inland and around 33°F near the coast.

Residents are urged to protect pets, plants, and pipes, and ensure proper heating for homes. “Most of the area west of I-95 will experience freezing temperatures overnight,” Vorick noted.

Saturday: Cold Morning, Breezy Afternoon

Saturday morning will start off cold once again, but temperatures are expected to rise quickly into the 50s by midday. Skies will be partly cloudy, and northeast winds will bring a light breeze across the region.

“Saturday will feel crisp but comfortable once the sun comes up,” Vorick said. “It’ll be a good day to get outdoors after a frosty start.”

Sunday: Mild and Pleasant

A noticeable warm-up arrives Sunday, with morning lows in the 40s and afternoon highs climbing into the upper 60s and low 70s. Most of the day will be dry, though a few passing showers are possible ahead of an approaching cold front.

Early Week: Rain and Isolated Storms

By Monday, the front will stall to the south, allowing an area of low pressure to develop along its tail end. Scattered showers are expected throughout the day, with heavier rain and isolated thunderstorms arriving late Monday night into Tuesday afternoon.

“The exact timing and track of the system will determine how much rain we see,” Vorick explained. “But this rain will be beneficial given our ongoing drought concerns.”

Rainfall totals will vary, but steady showers could help improve dry conditions across southeast Georgia.

Midweek: Cooler, Breezy Conditions Return

A reinforcing cold front will move through Tuesday night, ushering in another round of chilly mornings and cool afternoons through midweek.
