LAKE POINT, Utah – A serious crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger car left one person in critical condition and another injured near Southbound SR-36 at Canyon Road in Tooele County on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Utah Highway Patrol (UHP).
UHP Sgt. Mike Alexander confirmed that the crash occurred when a passenger vehicle became wedged beneath the trailer of a semi-truck around 12:30 p.m. Emergency crews responded swiftly to extricate the two occupants trapped inside the car.
Victims and Current Condition
Authorities reported that one occupant is in critical condition, while the second person sustained serious but stable injuries. Both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Photos released by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) show the car heavily damaged beneath the semi’s trailer, underscoring the severity of the collision.
Traffic Impact
The crash prompted major lane restrictions on southbound SR-36, reducing traffic to a single lane while cleanup and investigation continued. Traffic diversions were put in place, and motorists were advised to expect significant delays in the area.
UDOT has urged drivers to avoid the stretch of highway if possible and to remain cautious while traveling through the region.
