Police in Oregon need your help to find the minivan driver who was caught on camera ramming into a motorbike during an alleged case of road rage on Monday, May 5. The crash sent the motorcyclist flying off a U.S. highway.
The shocking video was posted on Facebook by the Beaverton Police Department. It seems to show a motorcycle pointing at a nearby minivan right before the minivan speeds up and hits the biker. After the crash, the rider and his bike are no longer on U.S. Route 26.
The minivan then speeds off and goes by several cars before it disappears from view. At the same time, other drivers seem to slow down to check on the biker, who crashed out of view.
Beaverton police said in a social media post with the video that the primary investigation shows the incident may have been caused by a driver of a blue late-model Kia Carnival getting angry with a motorbike rider for speeding. “The Kia hit the motorcycle from the side, and the rider lost control.” After that, the Kia’s driver ran away from the scene. Investigators think the Kia driver did what they did on purpose.
Beaverton police also said, “The motorbike rider was seriously hurt and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.”
“The driver of the Kia has been described as an adult white male between the ages of 30 and 40 with a black beard,” the police said. “The police in Beaverton are actively looking for the Kia driver and the other car involved.”
People has asked the Beaverton Police Department for a report on both the motorcyclist’s health and the investigation into the minivan driver. As of Tuesday morning, no charges had been brought, and the police have not yet given the press an update.
