A small plane crashed in a California neighbourhood on Saturday afternoon, killing the pilot and badly damaging two homes.
A small, single-engine fixed-wing aircraft crashed into two houses on the 200 block of High Meadow Street in the Wood Ranch area of Simi Valley just after 2 p.m. local time, according to the Ventura County Fire Department and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The FAA says the Vans RV-10 plane took off from William J. Fox Airfield in Lancaster and was on its way to Camarillo Airport when it crashed.
Officials say the pilot was the only person on the plane and died at the scene. They have not been named by the people yet.
People were in both homes when the accident happened, but they were both evacuated without being hurt.
The Fire Department says that the two-story single-family homes were set on fire and suffered damage to their structures.
The fire was out as of 4:30 p.m. local time, and workers were working on overhaul and salvage operations.
There were about 40 firemen on the scene, and the Simi Valley Police Department is in charge of everything.
The preliminary reason of the crash has not yet been made public by the authorities.
A member of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) was at the spot as of 6:30 p.m. local time.
The NTSB says that once the remains is photographed and written down, it will be taken to a safe place to be studied further.
The FAA and NTSB will keep looking into it.
