The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) criticised The New York Times on Saturday for a story about a suspect who was said to have raped a dead body on a New York City train. The DHS said the reporters should have said that the man was in the U.S. illegally.
In its 400-word story about the horrible rape of a body on the New York City underground, the New York Times refused to say anywhere that the evil person who did it is an ILLEGAL alien, Tricia McLaughlin, DHS assistant secretary for public affairs, wrote on X. “Why not report the facts, @nytimes?”
The New York Times told Fox News that McLaughlin left out the April 28 print date in a social media post he made on May 3 that included a screenshot of the story.
Nicole Taylor, Communications Director for the New York Times, told Fox News, “Our report on Felix Rojas’s arrest came out on Monday, April 28, three days before Immigration and Customs Enforcement made it public that he had entered the country illegally more than once.” “Our story does not include details on immigration status as neither the police nor ICE had disclosed it.”
A lot of news sites didn’t report on Rojas’ immigration status either. The New York Post said that they didn’t know what his status was when they wrote about the incident on Tuesday. Following up with a different story on Friday, the Post said that Rojas was in the U.S. illegally.
The news release from DHS about Rojas’ ICE detention came out on May 1, three days after the story in The New York Times. It doesn’t seem to have been updated with his legal status. The Times hasn’t written anything else about Rojas since then.
DHS says Rojas was arrested in New York City and charged with rape and grand theft for reportedly raping a dead body on a Manhattan tube. He had been in the country illegally several times since 1998.
The guy who died on the R train was lying down in a seat, the NYPD told Fox News. Police say that Rojas looked through the man’s pockets and then had sex with his dead body after checking to see if anyone was watching.
Now, police are looking into the chance that he is connected to other crimes happening in the city.
In a statement, McLaughlin said, “Open-border policies have let violent criminal aliens terrorise America’s towns and cities without being caught,” “ICE works around the clock to get the worst people out of our communities under the direction of President Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem.” It’s against the law to be here, so we will find you, arrest you, and lock you up.
