On Monday, a Madison sex offender refused to appear in court after being charged with attempted murder of a Rockford Police officer and shooting and wounding a K-9 on Saturday.
Vernon Frills, 38, was scheduled to appear before Judge Heidi Agustsson for the first time at 1:30 p.m., according to Winnebago County Court records.
However, records reveal that Frills refused to appear.
Frills now has a new court date of April 23rd.
Around 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, April 19th, cops stopped Frills in the 1300 block of East State Street, near the Circle K gas station. Police said that he escaped on foot after being stopped over.
Frills allegedly shot the K9 shortly after, wounding its paw and shoulder. The K9 was transported to an emergency veterinarian and is anticipated to fully recover from surgery.
Frills is charged with attempted murder of a police officer, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, aggravated discharge of a firearm at a police officer, armed violence, possession of a controlled substance (MDMA), injuring a police K-9, obstructing justice, and an outstanding warrant from Wisconsin.
According to Wisconsin court records, Frills is a convicted sex offender who committed many acts of sexual abuse against the same child in a 2010 case in Dane County.
