May’s Social Security Calendar Is Finally Revealed Payments start on May 1st

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has announced payment dates for May 2025, which have been changed to reflect business days and beneficiary groups’ birth ranges. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients will receive their monies on May 1, while other payments will be delivered on May 2 (per weekend adjustment) and on Wednesdays, May 14, 21, and 28, depending on their birth date.

The amounts reflect the 2.5% Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA 2025), with averages and maximums varying according to the kind of benefit. In the case of retirement, the average payment is $1,976, which can rise to $5,108 for those who delay their application.

The maximum payments for the SSI program are $967 for individuals and $1,450 for couples, according to official SSA data.

The SSA calendar for May has minimal adjustments

Those who receive payments on the third of each month—including beneficiaries from before 1997—will receive their monies on May 2, which falls on a Saturday. Payments scheduled for weekends are moved to the preceding working day, as per usual policy. This solely affects federal benefits, not state programs.

Payments based on date of birth are made on three Wednesdays: May 14 (born 1-10), May 21 (11-20), and May 28 (21-31). These dates, which are validated on the official calendar, prevent overlaps and enable prompt processing.

The maximum payments for retirement depend on the age at which the claim is made: $2,831 at age 62, $4,018 at full retirement age (67 years), and $5,108 till age 70. These numbers are derived based on maximal contributions over the working life.

The $1,976 average applies to all beneficiaries, regardless of age when they filed for the benefit.

The monthly average for disability (SSDI) is $1,580, with no formal maximum established. The SSA estimates this payment based on past wages and years of service. The SSI caps are fixed, although they can be reduced if beneficiaries exceed their income or resource limits, according to eligibility regulations published on SSA.gov.

An advance payment for June, but in May

SSI users will receive an early payment on May 30, which is in June because June 1 is a Sunday. The May cigar is unaffected by this modification. Those receiving both Social Security and SSI will get their federal contributions on May 2 under the weekend priority rule.
