4-year-old Choked and Violently Thrown into Closet by Father; Florida Authorities Arrested Father after Abuse got Revealed

Honk News (Miami-Dade, FL) – A man from Florida has been charged with felony child abuse after allegedly tying up and choking his 4-year-old son while playing a game.

This week, Miami Police apprehended 29-year-old Orlando Fernandez Jr. on serious charges of aggravated child abuse and torture. The allegations stem from an incident on January 1, during which he reportedly harmed his son at his residence, with his girlfriend corroborating the claims of abuse, as stated by law enforcement officials.

The boy recounted to investigators, as detailed in Fernandez’s arrest report obtained by local ABC affiliate WPLG this week, “My dad choked me.”

Authorities reported that they became aware of the “cops and robbers” game following a notification from the University of Miami Child Protection Team. Authorities have conducted interviews with the 4-year-old and Fernandez’s girlfriend, leading to Fernandez being charged on Monday with aggravated child abuse and drug possession.

Authorities reported that during the arrest of Fernandez, a “small baggie containing suspected cocaine and two white plastic smoking devices” was discovered within his residence.

Authorities reported that a medical assessment of Fernandez’s son revealed bruises and physical markings on his wrists, linked to the restraints applied by his father on that occasion. Reports indicate that zip ties were discovered and purportedly utilized within the residence. The child recounted an incident where his father seized him by the ankle and forcefully tossed him into a closet.

Fernandez’s girlfriend, who has refuted any involvement, stated that he was known to engage in “cops and robbers” games prior to the events on New Year’s Day.

According to police, Fernandez admitted to mistreating his son after previously refuting the claims made against him. According to online records, he is currently detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami. His bond status is currently marked as “to be set.”
