Honk News (Waynesboro, NC) – Last week, a convicted sex offender was taken into custody following a cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding suspected child pornography, according to Waynesboro Police on Wednesday.
Robert O. Lafferty Jr., 37, from Waynesboro, is confronting 11 counts related to the possession of illicit materials involving minors, as indicated by court documents.
In 2006, Lafferty faced multiple convictions in Augusta County and was subsequently added to the state’s sex offender registry.
On Friday, January 31, investigators from the Waynesboro Police Department carried out a search warrant at Lafferty’s home located in the 1800 block of Monticello Street. Authorities reported that the findings from the investigation resulted in his most recent apprehension.

He remains in custody at Middle River Regional Jail in Verona, with no bond set.
At the age of 18, Lafferty was arrested in 2006 following a tip from a family member, as reported in an article from that year. Just weeks after reaching the age of 19, he faced conviction in Augusta County Circuit Court on multiple counts, including 13 for possession of explicit material, six for distribution of explicit material, and one for possession of illicit content involving minors, according to court documents.
Lafferty has been listed on the Virginia State Police Registry for sex offenders since 2007, according to online records.
