Utah Man Hid Cameras in Hotel Room and Bathroom to Record Explicit Activities with Minor; Arrested and Charged

Honk News (Woods Cross, UT) – A former gymnastics coach from Woods Cross has entered a guilty plea, acknowledging that he transported a minor across state lines to produce child sex abuse material.

Adam Richard Jacobs, 34, faced arrest in March 2023 and was federally charged shortly thereafter for transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, as well as for the production and possession of child sex abuse materials.

In accordance with his plea deal, Jacobs admitted guilt solely for the act of transporting a minor with the purpose of engaging in illegal sexual conduct.

Jacobs allegedly confessed to taking the minor out of Utah to multiple states, such as Florida and Texas, in his role as a gymnastics coach.

“At this time, he secretly installed a camera in the minor’s hotel room and bathroom to create materials related to child sexual abuse,” stated U.S. Attorney Trinia Higgins from the District of Utah. “Jacobs also acknowledged that every electronic device taken during a search warrant executed in March 2023 was utilized to continue involvement in the creation of child sexual abuse materials.”

An inquiry into Jacobs commenced following the discovery of a concealed camera by an employee at USA Gymnastics World, found twice in the unisex restroom of the facility. Authorities reported that the camera contained approximately 120 video files featuring more than 70 individuals, spanning from children to adults.

As outlined in the signed statement, prior to the plea agreement, Jacobs is looking at a minimum of 10 years in federal prison, a fine of $250,000, and a period of supervised release ranging from a minimum of five years to life.

Jacobs is set to receive sentencing on August 14, 2025, at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse located in downtown Salt Lake City.
