Honk News (Sugar Land, TX) – A karate instructor has been charged with the sexual assault of a child, following allegations that he raped a boy at a karate camp in Texas, according to an arrest affidavit.
A 30-year-old man named William Propper is accused of sexually assaulting a boy at a karate school in Sugar Land, as stated in the affidavit.
The affidavit states that the victim was between 13 and 14 years old during the time of the alleged incident in either 2022 or 2023.
On January 31, a detective from the Sugar Land Police Department took on the case following a report from the boy’s mother regarding the suspected sexual assault. The mother of the boy reportedly informed authorities that her son revealed to her that Propper had assaulted him in a staff restroom at the karate school, according to the affidavit.
A trained forensic interviewer learned from the boy that Propper had served as his karate instructor since 2018.
“John Doe explained that it occurred while he was attending the Safety Karate school in Sugar Land during the summer for a summer camp,” according to the affidavit. “John Doe explained that suspect “offered to ‘try out sex’ and suspect told him that [victim] was mature enough now to have sex.”
Following the reported incident, Propper allegedly instructed him to remain silent about the events that took place in the bathroom, as stated in the affidavit.
A representative for Safety America Karate announced that an employee is currently on leave while an investigation is underway. Classes will continue as scheduled. Thank you for your patience and encouragement as we navigate through this challenging period.
Propper was taken into custody on Saturday, February 1, and has since been released on a bond of $75,000.
The matter is still pending submission to the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office.
He is set to make a court appearance on March 17.
