Immigrant Teacher Molested Girl Several Times; Arrested after Victim Said She Slept with Her Teacher in Las Vegas

Honk News (Las Vegas, NV) – A substitute teacher at a high school faces allegations of engaging in sexual activity with a student during winter break, as detailed in an arrest report.

Kurt Tumbagahan, 25, is charged with contacting a minor by a person in authority for sexual purposes and a school employee engaging in a sexual act with someone aged 16 or older, according to records.

On January 7, authorities began looking into a teacher named Tumbagahan for having inappropriate interactions with a student. The following day, police interviewed a student at Valley High School who revealed that she had been involved in a sexual relationship with her English teacher, Tumbagahan.

A report states that Tumbagahan served as a long-term substitute at Valley High School, where the student first encountered him during the first semester when he replaced another teacher.

A student discovered her shared passion for playing the trumpet with Tumbagahan, who played for UNLV and provided private lessons to other male students. A student reported to the police that she never attended a paid lesson with him, but received instruction on breathing techniques in his classroom, according to the report.

Tumbagahan had four meetings with the student during the break. They initially met three times in a parking lot close to her residence. According to police, the two spent hours together, either inside his car or strolling through the parking lot.

A report indicates that the student informed police that during their initial two meetings, they only shared kisses, but during the third and fourth encounters, they engaged in sexual activity in his car.

Messages exchanged between Tumbagahan and the student indicated that he understood the seriousness of the situation, particularly given his non-citizen status, as stated in the report.

Tumbagahan surrendered to the police on January 29 and was taken into custody outside the Clark County Detention Center without any issues. Court appearance scheduled for March 5.
