Family Devastated after Medical Device Explosion Claimed Life of 5-Year-Old Boy in Michigan

Honk News (Troy, MI) – A tragic incident occurred on Friday, Jan. 31, when a 5-year-old boy lost his life in an explosion at a medical facility in Troy, Mich., as reported by the Troy Fire Department.

A young child, whose identity remains undisclosed, was located in a hyperbaric chamber at The Oxford Center, situated at 165 Kirts Blvd. in Troy, Michigan. The Mayo Clinic explains that a hyperbaric chamber enhances oxygen delivery to the body by supplying pure oxygen in a confined environment with elevated air pressure, commonly utilized for healing tissues affected by injury or illness.

The reason for the child’s oxygen therapy has not been disclosed by the authorities.

On Friday at 7:54 a.m., emergency services from the Troy Fire and Police Departments rushed to the scene following reports of an explosion involving a hyperbaric chamber with a child present. Upon the arrival of first responders, it was confirmed that the boy had passed away within the chamber. According to Troy Fire Department Lt. Ken Young during a press conference on Friday, the blaze was successfully confined to the area of the explosion.

According to Lt. Ben Hancock from the Troy Police Department, the boy’s mother was beside the chamber and sustained injuries to her arms during the incident.

A hyperbaric chamber is filled with pure oxygen, providing up to three times the oxygen found in a typical room. The Troy Fire Department stated that a significant concentration of oxygen in a pressurized setting can lead to highly combustible conditions.

Authorities have launched an inquiry into the recent explosion.

The Oxford Center provides alternative medical treatments, specializing in hyperbaric oxygen therapy for various conditions that lack FDA approval. These include autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, Bell’s palsy, epilepsy, ADD, COVID-19, depression, Alzheimer’s, alopecia, HIV/AIDS, strokes, migraine headaches, diabetes, Parkinson’s, and numerous others.
