Honk News – DJ Unk, the Atlanta rapper celebrated for his early 2000s anthems like “Walk It Out” and “2 Step,” has passed away following a cardiac arrest this week, as confirmed by his wife.
Following the passing of Anthony Leonard Platt at the age of 43, his wife Sherkita Long-Platt confirmed the news through a Facebook post. She has since disclosed the cause of his death to TMZ.
As reported by the outlet, Long-Platt has verified that DJ Unk passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday, Jan. 24, due to a cardiac arrest. She firmly rejected rumors suggesting that his passing was linked to substance misuse, stating to the outlet that her husband was not involved with drugs.
On Instagram, Long-Platt invited supporters and friends to join a candlelight vigil on Sunday, Jan. 26, at Central Park in Atlanta. The upcoming gathering promises an array of blue-and-white balloons, according to the promotional material.
Long-Platt shared the heartbreaking news of her husband’s passing earlier this week, posting on Facebook. In response to the Facebook announcement, Platt’s label, Big Oomp Records, released a tribute, referring to the musician as a “true ATL legend.”

Throughout his career, Platt achieved notable success with his tracks “2 Step,” which reached No. 4 on the Billboard Hot Rap Songs chart in 2006, and “Walk It Out.” The remix showcased André 3000 and Jim Jones, and it was also included in the film Stomp the Yard.
According to a report, Platt expressed his appreciation for the song’s positive energy and uplifting vibes during the 2023 BET Awards. He mentioned that he had come across it being featured in workout routines and even in church settings. “It’s utilized for a variety of purposes,” he remarked back then.
Back in 2010, the artist shared with XXL that he had experienced a heart attack in the past and was planning to alter his way of living.
“It comes from not exercising, from not eating right,” Platt said. “Basically man, I work hard everyday. Everything I do every day I try to make something happen in my household. I constantly be on the go, I constantly be on airplanes, in different weather and you know it just took a toll on me. It was stress.”
