Baby Still Attached with Umbilical Cord Found Abandoned in Freezing Temperature: San Antonio Police Starts Probe

Honk News (San Antonio, TX) – A newborn is said to be in critical condition after being abandoned in freezing temperatures in Texas.

A baby was discovered wrapped in a towel within a basket, showing weak signs of life with the umbilical cord still connected, around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, as reported on Jan 24.

A newborn was found abandoned right in front of a fire station that has a safe surrender site available around the clock, located at the intersection of Nolan and Cherry Street on the East Side of San Antonio. Upon discovery, the infant was swiftly transported to a hospital, where the baby is currently in critical condition, according to local reports.

The National Weather Service reported that temperatures in San Antonio dropped to 25 degrees on the night the child was left outdoors. Recent data indicates that the city is facing a spell of unexpectedly chilly conditions.

San Antonio has implemented a law that provides new parents facing difficulties with a secure and lawful choice for their child. Enacted in 1999, this legislation has since influenced comparable laws in various states, permitting new parents who cannot provide care for their infant, for any reason, to place their newborn in a “designated safe space without any inquiries.” These locations encompass medical facilities, emergency medical service stations, independent urgent care centers, and fire departments.

After a recent decision by a new parent to relinquish their child, the infant will receive medical attention and oversight from an emergency care professional.

According to reports, the San Antonio Police Department is currently looking into this week’s incident, but officers have made no arrests as of yet.
