Teacher Pushed Student after He Spilled Water in Las Vegas School; Charged after Boy Sprained His Shoulder

Honk News (Las Vegas, NV) – An elementary school teacher in Las Vegas is facing a charge of child abuse following allegations that he pushed a 10-year-old student, according to police reports.

On Thursday, Mateusz Baran, 47, faced a judge at the Las Vegas Justice Court. On December 16, he was taken into custody for allegations of child abuse and neglect.

Baran served as an educator at Sunrise Acres Elementary School, located close to Stewart Avenue and 28th Street.

An arrest report reveals that Baran shoved a 10-year-old boy to the ground following an incident involving spilled water. The event allegedly led to the student sustaining a shoulder sprain.

Officers from the CCSDPD spoke with seven students who reported seeing Baran shove the child. According to police, it was reported that Baran directed the student to tidy up the water prior to pushing him.

Baran’s next court appearance is set for April 17. He has been put on paid leave according to the district’s agreement with the local education association.

According to the Clark County School District, he has been with the district since July 2024.
