Honk News (Philadelphia, PA) – Noah Scurry, part of the Samuel Fels basketball team, suffered multiple gunshot wounds on the morning of January 14.
A tragic incident has claimed the life of Noah Scurry, a 17-year-old basketball standout from a Philadelphia high school, who was fatally shot while heading to school.
Reports from CBS News indicate that Scurry and his mother were en route to Samuel Fels High School in Feltonville at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14, when the young athlete was shot multiple times on the 5000 block of Tacony Creek Park and Roosevelt Boulevard.
He was taken to Jefferson Einstein Hospital, where he was declared deceased at 7:37 a.m. A report from NBC indicates that a law enforcement source revealed that “dozens” of shots were discharged at Scurry.

A nearby resident recounted the event, stating, “I heard gunshots — multiple — and then just screaming from the mom…I can still hear the mom’s mother cry, seeing her baby on that floor like that.”
Another nearby resident recounted hearing “multiple shots at once” during the incident, stating, “The first thing I thought was to grab my son and throw him on the floor.”

On January 14, Melissa Rasper, the principal of Samuel Fels High School, announced the heartbreaking news of a student-athlete’s death and stated that the boys basketball team will be canceling their games for the rest of the week.
Rasper noted that Scurry had “recently achieved the highest score among the Fels community on the SAT college placement tests,” and a classmate shared with NBC that Scurry was a “really smart” peer.
“Whenever he entered a room, the room always lit,” the 10th grader told NBC. “There was always a smile on somebody’s face when you were around him. Just so sad to think that he died.”
Monique Braxton, representing the School District of Philadelphia, expressed that the school community is “distraught” following Scurry’s passing.
“This is unimaginable for them,” Braxton continued. “The student was getting in the car with his mom this morning in the back of his home, and he was shot and killed. This student was about to graduate. He probably would’ve had offers to play basketball at colleges across the country. And you know, it’s just a life senselessly cut short.”
