Honk News (Houston, TX) – A Texas man has been found guilty of capital murder after he FaceTimed his girlfriend and her father while he was strangling their 2-year-old daughter, reports indicate.
Deontray Flanagan has been found guilty of murdering his daughter, Zevaya Flanagan, in March 2023. On Monday, Jan. 13, jurors will start discussing Flanagan’s sentencing.
Flanagan is facing accusations of murdering his daughter following a 45-minute police chase that began after he picked up Zevaya from daycare. Zevaya’s mother, Kairsten Watson, and her grandfather, Curtis Watson, observed via FaceTime as Flanagan allegedly strangled and assaulted his daughter.
He then drove recklessly with the 2-year-old girl unbuckled, leading to her being tossed around the vehicle during a lengthy police pursuit, according to prosecutors.

A 2-year-old girl was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead shortly after the pursuit, as reported by the outlet. Prosecutors claimed that the injuries she sustained while being thrown around in the car during the police chase led to her death.

Curtis Watson, the girl’s grandfather, shared in a Houston courtroom that he and his daughter Kairsten attempted to talk to Flanagan via FaceTime while he was assaulting the child.
A mother of a 2-year-old shared with ABC 13 that she had alerted authorities about Flanagan’s threats against her and her daughter, expressing concerns about his dangerous behavior.

Watson reported that she provided authorities with multiple messages in which Flanagan threatened to harm their daughter, according to ABC 13. Watson mentioned that they didn’t believe him, as reported by the outlet. “They believed I was just fabricating this, and he was indeed the father.”
