A couple in Marion County faces charges after authorities discovered three juveniles, one of whom had visible injuries, in a residence with unsanitary conditions, including raw sewage on the floor.
On May 18, deputies from the Marion County Sheriff’s Department responded to a home in Grant Town following a report of child abuse, as stated in a criminal complaint.
Upon arrival, deputies spoke with a child who reported that Samantha Perkins, 34, and Daniel Perkins, 56, both from Grant Town, had physically assaulted the child, according to deputies.
Deputies noted visible bruises and blood on the juvenile, prompting them to contact CPS. They then accompanied workers to the residence where the alleged abuse occurred, as stated in the complaint.
When CPS and deputies arrived, they observed that there was “trash scattered throughout the front of the residence with an eroded stairway leading to the front door,” along with “trash and dirt on the floor with a strong odor of raw sewage coming from the bathroom,” according to deputies.

The bathroom was reported to have sewage overflowing in the toilet and a fly infestation. In a bedroom, CPS workers found three children aged between 1 and 11, including a 3-year-old on a dirty mattress on the floor with a feeding tube, appearing malnourished, as stated in the complaint.
Daniel and Samantha face charges of child neglect, while Daniel also faces a charge of child abuse. Both individuals are currently in custody at North Central Regional Jail.
