A couple from Lacey faces allegations of attempting to abduct their daughter and harm her due to her rejection of an arranged marriage, as stated in court documents submitted in Thurston County.
On October 18, several individuals contacted 911 to report witnessing a man choking a girl outside Timberline High School. Authorities have confirmed that he was subsequently recognized as Ihsan Ali, her father.
Court documents reveal that the teen’s boyfriend attempted to step in but was also attacked.
Multiple witnesses reported to authorities that the teen’s mother, Zahraa Subhi Mohsin Ali, approached and seized her from behind.
The documents indicate that during the headlock, the teen was “knocked out” and was uncertain about the duration of her unconsciousness.
The school entered a precautionary lockdown
Legal filings reveal that the adolescent previously disclosed mistreatment by her parents, who punished her for offenses such as failing to prepare tea for them.
Prosecutors report that the girl informed investigators she fled due to her parents’ intentions to send her to Iraq for an arranged marriage with an older man, along with threats to her life.
Authorities reported that she returned to her former school in search of a secure place to stay, prompting her parents to follow her there.
Ihsan Ali, the father of the girl, faces charges of attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, and assault, according to prosecutors.
Zahraa Ali, the mother, faces charges including attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, assault, burglary, and violating a protection order.
A trial is scheduled for December 30.
