Father Abducted 7-year-old Girl from Relative’s Home; Shot Dead after Hot Chase in Ohio

Authorities reported that a man was fatally shot by officers after abducting his 7-year-old daughter from a relative’s residence in Ohio and leading police on a chase for several hours. The girl sustained no physical injuries.

A 43-year-old man, lacking custody of the child, removed her from a residence in Empire around 3 p.m. on Monday following a dispute and a physical confrontation. Officials promptly activated an alert for the missing girl.

A vehicle driven by Alexander was pursued by police around 8 p.m. in Brunswick after he failed to stop. This led to a chase involving several police departments along Interstate 71 South, according to the Medina County Sheriff’s Office.

Alexander’s car was ultimately rendered inoperable by law enforcement tools designed to deflate tires, leading him to leave the highway at Route 18 in Medina Township.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Alexander maneuvered the inoperable vehicle into the parking lot of a nearby fast-food restaurant and initiated communication with multiple dispatch centers via phone prior to his death.

The sheriff’s statement did not clarify if Alexander was carrying a weapon, nor did it detail the specific circumstances that led officers to discharge their firearms.

An officer-involved shooting occurred with multiple gunshots fired, involving Alexander, but fortunately, no officers sustained injuries, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s statement did not clarify if Alexander’s daughter was present in the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Officials have confirmed that she was located in Medina and subsequently reunited with her family later on Monday. The identity remains undisclosed.
