A 48-year-old man from Lake in the Hills faces serious charges, including aggravated battery to a child and two counts of domestic battery.
A legal action has been initiated in McHenry County Circuit Court, claiming that Cerqueda-Cortes inflicted injury on a child on October 16 in Lake in the Hills.
Cerqueda-Cortes allegedly assaulted a 5-year-old by hitting them in the face, back, and both arms with a gym shoe, as stated in the complaint.
A family member of Cerqueda-Cortes experienced bruising and redness, according to the complaint.

On Thursday, authorities issued an arrest warrant for Cerqueda-Cortes, leading to his immediate apprehension.
The McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office has submitted a petition to hold Cerqueda-Cortes in custody until his trial, labeling him a significant and immediate danger to the community.
The petition was denied by Judge Carl Metz of McHenry County after an Initial Appearance Court hearing.
Metz has mandated that Cerqueda-Cortes refrain from possessing firearms and maintain no contact with his minor children as part of the terms for his release.
Cerqueda-Cortes is set to return to court on December 5 for an update on the preliminary hearing status.
