A teacher from a prestigious Catholic boys’ school near Cincinnati, Ohio is facing a potential 15-year prison sentence for reportedly engaging in sexual activities with a vulnerable 17-year-old student in her office, sharing explicit images, and persistently contacting him even after he attempted to end the inappropriate relationship, as stated by officials.
Emily Nutley, 42, faces six counts of sexual battery, classified as a third-degree felony, in connection with the alleged affair, according to Hamilton County Prosecutor Melissa Powers.
In the fall semester of 2023, Nutley began working at St. Xavier High School, a well-regarded Jesuit boys’ school, as the supervisor of a program designed to assist students facing academic challenges, according to the prosecutor’s office.
Officials reported that she encountered the victim, a 17-year-old boy, during her program.
Nutley started to engage with the victim beyond school hours, sending him nude photos and sexually explicit messages, according to prosecutors.
By mid-November, Nutley and the victim were involved in a physical relationship, with Nutley reportedly engaging in a sexual act with the victim “at least once on the campus of St. Xavier High School and once more off campus,” officials stated.
Prosecutors claim that Nutley and the student were involved in sexual activity after school in her office on campus.
The prosecutor’s office stated, “Despite the victim’s attempts to end the interactions, Nutley persisted in reaching out through text messages.”
School administrators uncovered the inappropriate relationship during an internal investigation and subsequently reached out to Springfield Township Police. The department subsequently initiated its own inquiry.
Officials stated that if convicted, Nutley will need to register as a sexual offender.
Her court appearance is set for Nov. 8, according to the report.
