A jury in Tulsa County has convicted a local resident on several counts, including child abuse, child neglect, and the first-degree murder of a 10-year-old boy.
John Miles, 34 years old, is confronting a total of nine felony charges, which include serious allegations of child sexual abuse and the desecration of a corpse.
Court documents reveal that Miles was involved in the abuse and neglect of two children belonging to his girlfriend between 2020 and 2021.
Orland Hugger, Jr. has tragically lost his life as a result of the mistreatment he endured from Miles.
“I have never encountered a case as horrifying and brutal in my time as a prosecutor,” stated Amy Dickens, Assistant District Attorney for Tulsa County. “The daily torment, mistreatment, and disregard these children endured is utterly unacceptable.”
During the trial, it came to light that Miles subjected the two children to severe punishment by confining them in a closet for extended periods, permitting them to use the restroom only twice daily.
Following the passing of Hugger, Jr., Miles laid him to rest in a field. He subsequently exhumed the remains and incinerated them in a refuse container.
A life sentence without the possibility of parole was recommended by the jury for the first-degree murder charge. It was suggested that Miles receive a total of six life sentences along with an extra 55 years for the other charges.
The official sentencing is scheduled for December 19, 2024.
