A woman involved in a plea agreement related to the death of her four-month-old daughter was informed on Tuesday of her prison sentence.
In August, Christina Bennett entered a no-contest plea for child abandonment that led to death.
In April of last year, Bennett arrived at her parents’ home in Albuquerque and claimed that her baby had died. An autopsy revealed the presence of meth in the baby’s system. According to witnesses, Bennett was known to use drugs and was seen breastfeeding the infant.
Just six days prior, Bennett was involved in a police pursuit in Albuquerque, disregarding red lights and navigating the wrong way on streets while holding her four-month-old in her lap.
Bennett received a ten-year prison sentence from Judge Stanley Whitaker.
