According to a press statement from the Sterling police department, a man was detained last week in relation to the attempted kidnapping of an 8-year-old girl in her bedroom.
The 56-year-old Thomas Gallegos is facing multiple criminal counts after his arrest on Saturday morning. These include attempted kidnapping, assault, burglary, and child abuse.
Early on Tuesday morning, Gallegos allegedly tried to abduct an 8-year-old child from a residence in the 300 block of Walnut Street after breaking into her bedroom, according to the police.
According to the Sterling Police Department, the juvenile was attacked in her bedroom and engaged in a struggle with the offender, who subsequently escaped before authorities reached the scene of the crime.
Authorities stated in the press release that Gallegos was apprehended a few days later thanks to the substantial physical, digital, and forensic evidence that investigators from the department had at their disposal.
There is no ongoing danger to the community, and the police have confirmed that no other individuals are linked to this crime.
There was a lack of context on the purported abduction in the news release.
