Gambling Den and Drug Operation Busted in San Jose, Two Suspects Arrested

On Friday, the METRO sections of the San Jose Police Department raided an illegal gambling den and a drug-selling operation out of a San Jose home. The operation resulted in the recovery of both firearms and drugs.

An ongoing investigation into illegal drug sales from an illegal gambling den in San Jose’s 1400 block of Meadow Glen Way was being looked into by SJPD units. Police identified Glenn Jingco and Sophana El as the main suspects in the den’s operations after conducting additional investigations.

On October 3, officers secured and executed a search warrant at the residence located in Meadow Glen Way. The following was retrieved by METRO units with assistance from SJPD’s MERGE units:

  • Loaded privately manufactured firearm with no identifiable serial number
  • Short-barreled shotgun
  • Multiple forms of ammunition
  • Methamphetamine (unspecified amount)
  • U.S. currency with “various” denominations
  • Approximately seven large illegal gambling machines
  • “Other various drug paraphernalia”

According to SJPD, Jingco and El were not allowed to own firearms “because of past convictions.” According to police, both individuals were arrested and charged with “operating an illegal gambling and narcotics establishment” at Santa Clara County Main Jail.
