If you are a Texan family in need of food stamps, you may be wondering when the September deadline is for you to apply for your Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.
While the United States Department of Agriculture is in charge of SNAP on a national level, the Texas Health and Human Services Agency is in charge of its operations at the state level, so they can better meet the needs of Texans.
After enrollment is complete, the program deposits monthly benefits into a debit or credit card-type electronic bank transfer card (in Texas, this is known as a Lone Star Card) that the participant can use just like any other card.
Then, Texans can use it to buy carbs, fats, protein, fruits, and veggies (so long as they aren’t already on sale), but they can’t use it to buy tobacco, alcohol, or other amenities, or pay bills.
SNAP Food Assistance
The program is open to low-income families and the unemployed, with some restrictions for individuals aged 18–52, such as SNAP time limits and the option to seek employment. Disabled people and pregnant women are exempt from these.
The maximum monthly income for a household of one is $2005, while the maximum for a family of five is $4832. To avoid taking advantage of the program, families with more than five members are given an additional $707 per person in income.
In return, a family of three can receive $1,521; a family of four can receive $291; and a family of five can receive $1,115. For homes with more than eight members, an additional $219 per person should be included.
September SNAP Payment Schedule in Texas
On either the 1st or the 28th of each month, recipients will receive an Eligible Determination Group (EDG) number that will specify when they can expect to receive their payments.
Just compare the last two digits of the EDG with the corresponding date to get your number.
- EDG number 00-03: Sunday, September 1.
- EDG number 04-06: Monday, September 2.
- EDG number 07-10: Tuesday, September 3.
