A tragic incident occurred in Florida where a man, who was previously released on pretrial conditions for domestic violence, committed a heinous act.
Despite being ordered to stay away from his estranged girlfriend, he fatally stabbed her in front of her young child, leaving the innocent toddler alone with his mother’s lifeless body in their home.
Orestes Figueredo-Ortega has been found guilty of second-degree murder with a weapon in the tragic death of Delmy Teyul Ba, aged 21. This announcement was made by the 12th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office in a news release on Thursday.
“We are pleased with the jury’s verdict holding the defendant responsible for his brutal and fatal attack on this victim,” said Assistant State Attorney Charlie Lawrence, the lead prosecutor in the case.
“Domestic violence is a prevalent issue in our community, and this case is a heartbreaking example of the problem. Law enforcement’s quick response and investigative techniques led to the defendant’s timely apprehension. Delmy Teyul and her family have obtained justice for her senseless death.”
Teyul Ba tragically lost her life on September 17, 2020, at the Sunset Mobile Home Park in Bradenton, located on the beautiful Gulf of Mexico side of Florida, just south of Tampa. According to prosecutors, Figueredo-Ortega decided to skip work that day to keep an eye on Teyul Ba and find out what she was up to during work hours. They had an argument. Things escalated to a physical altercation.
Figueredo-Ortega allegedly assaulted her. She managed to escape. According to prosecutors, he used a knife to attack her in the presence of her young child, inflicting multiple stab wounds.
A detective with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office has provided a sworn statement detailing the incident that occurred when deputies were dispatched in response to a 911 call at 12:46 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered the lifeless body of Teyul Ba lying on the kitchen floor. She sustained multiple stab wounds, including to her chest, abdomen, and thigh. There was an injury on her left forearm and back that appeared to be defensive in nature. No weapon used in the crime was discovered.
The 911 caller received a call from Figueredo-Ortega, who claimed that Teyul Ba had stabbed herself and instructed the caller to contact emergency services. According to the document, she mentioned that she reached the residence approximately 10 minutes later and discovered the deceased individual.
According to authorities, surveillance footage from the mobile home park captured Figueredo-Ortega’s Chevrolet Cruze arriving at 11:09 and departing at 11:19 that morning.
Authorities located him in Miami after his car was spotted on a toll booth camera heading in that direction at 1:19 p.m. According to another witness, he informed investigators that Teyul Ba mentioned having a knife and expressed his intention to harm someone, while also mentioning his plans to travel to Miami.
During the time of the murder, he was out on pretrial release for a previous arrest related to domestic battery by strangulation involving Teyul Ba, which had occurred a month prior. According to prosecutors, he had also been instructed to avoid any communication with her at that time and was under felony probation for a case in Miami.
