A man has been charged with multiple felony counts in connection with the sexual assault of a child in Washoe County. The charges were filed on Monday.
Authorities apprehended Edgar Acero-Vasquez, a 43-year-old individual, on June 29. He was arrested by detectives from the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit (RSONU) and patrol officers from the Reno Police Department. Acero-Vasquez faces a felony charge for violating sex offender registration requirements. Aero-Vasquez was taken to the Washoe County Detention Facility and officially charged.
An investigation was launched into the alleged sexual abuse of a child who was acquainted with Acero-Vasquez and living in the same residence.
On July 1, following a thorough investigation by detectives from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Edgar Acero-Vasquez was charged with ten felony counts in connection with the sexual assault of a child. The charges are:
- Six counts of lewdness committed by a person over 18 with a child 14 or 15 years of age.
- Two counts of unlawful use of minors in producing pornography or as the subject of sexual portrayal in performance.
- Two counts of statutory sexual seduction by an offender over the age of 21.
Acero-Vasquez has been registered as a tier-three level sex offender in Nevada. This registration is a result of a conviction from June 5, 2019 in the Superior Court of California for unlawful sexual intercourse with a person under 18.
