Tampa, FL: Debora Ryder has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for drug conspiracy by U.S. District Judge Thomas P. Barber. Ryder pleaded guilty on September 19, 2023. In addition, she has agreed to surrender her nursing license. Ryder is 56 and is a New Port Richey resident.
Court documents reveal that Ryder, a Florida-licensed advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), registered nurse (RN), and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registrant, allegedly conspired with another individual to distribute controlled substances in the names of individuals without lawful authority.
Ryder, an APRN and DEA registrant, had the authority to issue prescriptions for controlled substances. However, she was aware that her licensing became delinquent on July 31, 2022, which rendered her ineligible to issue controlled substances. During the period between August and September 2022, Ryder engaged in a collaboration with another person.
This individual supplied Ryder with over twelve identifications and driver’s licenses, which Ryder then used to issue prescriptions for promethazine with codeine and oxycodone. Notably, these prescriptions were issued without any medical evaluation. Ryder accepted various forms of payment in exchange for every prescription she wrote for controlled substances.
Documents uncovered that Ryder had distributed around 84 unauthorized prescriptions as part of the scheme. In a shocking revelation, it has come to light that Ryder has been involved in the illegal issuance of 34 oxycodone and hydromorphone prescriptions.
What makes this situation even more disturbing is that these prescriptions were made in the name of J.R., Ryder’s deceased husband who passed away in 2018.
