According to an arrest report, a Florida Department of Children and Families investigator in Coral Gables called 911 after hearing a woman “crying out for help” during a follow-up on an anonymous tip at a home.
An officer responded to a distress call and entered the residence with the elderly woman’s consent. Unfortunately, they discovered that the 88-year-old was living in deplorable conditions and displaying clear signs of neglect.
As a result of that discovery, her son and “primary caretaker,” 65-year-old Llewellyn Tracy Price, was arrested.
Officials have chosen to withhold details regarding the location of the incident. However, public records indicate that Price and his mother reside on Frow Avenue, near the border between Coral Gables and Miami’s Coconut Grove neighborhood.
Authorities responded to the location at around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, as reported by the Coral Gables Police Department.
According to the arrest report, officers observed the woman on the living room couch, unable to stand on her own. She appeared dehydrated, and her bedroom was found in disarray.
“She was also dirty, along with her bed,” police wrote.
According to the police, a neighbor informed them that the woman had been neglected for a significant period. The neighbor also mentioned that Price fails to provide her with essential medication, proper nourishment, and adequate hydration.
According to the arrest report, the relative informed the officers that the victim requires oxygen treatment but Price still permits her to smoke cigarettes.
The woman was transported by Coral Gables Fire Department medics to the nearby Baptist Health Doctors Hospital. Staff at the hospital informed the police that the woman was in a severely dehydrated and malnourished state.
The report states that she also had multiple bruises and lesions on her back.
Authorities discovered evidence of a concerning nature during their investigation.
According to the authorities, Price visited the residence during the ongoing police investigation. He was subsequently apprehended and reportedly declined to provide a statement.
Before being taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, he urinated on the CGPD interview room floor, causing it to become unusable. This incident necessitated the intervention of a hazmat response team to decontaminate the area, resulting in a service cost exceeding $1000, according to the report.
According to jail records, Price is currently being held at TGK on a $7,500 bond. He is facing charges of aggravated abuse of an elderly or disabled adult and felony criminal mischief.
