52-Year-Old Kentucky Man Allegedly Shoots Neighbor’s Cat, Cites “Property Nuisance”

A man from Georgetown faces allegations of murdering a neighbor’s cat.

On September 22, an event took place on Green Lane.

The complaint states that when the cat owners returned home that evening, they discovered their cat lying in the grass with what seemed to be a gunshot wound. The cat was brought to the veterinarian but unfortunately had to be put to sleep.

The following day, deputies approached 52-year-old Christopher Jones to discuss the incident.

According to the criminal complaint, Jones confessed to using a rifle to shoot the cat, claiming it was on his property and causing trouble by climbing on his vehicles and leaving paw prints.

The complaint states that Jones informed deputies he did not reach out to the cat’s owner to notify them of the problems and believed it was unnecessary to do so. Jones informed deputies that he was uncertain about the ownership of the cat and did not reach out to anyone following the shooting of the animal.

Jones faces charges for the torture of a dog or cat. The offense has been elevated to a felony following the enactment of Ethan’s Law in 2024. Every instance of torturing a dog or cat is classified as a Class D felony under the law.
