In Independence, Missouri, on Tuesday morning, a dog attacked a child, causing significant injuries. The child was quickly taken to the hospital.
At about 10:10 a.m., authorities were alerted to a report of a dog attacking a youngster in the 19000 block of East R.D. Mize Road. Firefighters and police were also dispatched to the scene.
The canine was safely contained in a kennel when the officers reached the location.
According to the 911 caller, a 5-year-old child suffered multiple injuries, including a severe gash to her neck, after a dog mauled her.
The girl was rushed to a hospital for immediate treatment. The Animal Control Unit has taken the dog into their possession.
The circumstances surrounding the incident and whether or not the animal in question was a household pet remain unknown. The Independence Police Department is currently investigating the incident.
