40-Foot Fall Injures Firefighter in Massive Manhattan Blaze; Over 200 Respond to Scene

A firefighter sustained serious injuries after falling 40 feet from a window while fighting a five-alarm blaze at a Manhattan apartment building on Friday, as reported by the FDNY.

A firefighter was descending the stairs of a six-story building engulfed in flames in Hamilton Heights when he accidentally fell out of a fifth-floor window and down a shaft at the rear of the building, according to officials and sources.

According to The Post, a firefighter faced an incident while retracting a hose line.

A firefighter is currently in serious but stable condition at Harlem Hospital, as reported by the FDNY.

A fire broke out on the second floor of an apartment building on West 145th Street between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenue shortly after 2:40 p.m., according to officials, who reported that firefighters were on the scene battling the flames.

FDNY Chief of Fire Operations Kevin Woods reported that strong winds coming through the front windows intensified the fire, allowing the flames to reach the sixth floor.

Over 200 firefighters tackled the large fire.

According to Chief of EMS Michael Field, five civilians and three additional firefighters sustained injuries, but these are deemed minor.
