Lincoln, NE – Brittney Clark, a 27-year-old woman from Lincoln, has been charged with felony child abuse after authorities rescued her 4-year-old daughter from a vehicle in freezing temperatures.
On November 26, Lincoln Police responded to a call about child neglect at a truck stop located at 151 SW 48th Street. Police found the child alone in the driver’s seat of a gray Ford Escape with the window partially rolled down and no heat running, despite the 24-degree Fahrenheit temperature. The child’s skin was cold to the touch, indicating she had been exposed to the cold for an extended period.
Clark, who was inside the store playing slot machines, told authorities that she had been checking on the child periodically. However, when police approached her, Clark allegedly resisted arrest, biting one officer and kicking another in the groin. She now faces additional charges of third-degree assault on an officer.
Legal Charges and Investigation
Clark has been charged with one count of felony child abuse and one count of third-degree assault on an officer. Investigators later confirmed that Clark had failed to properly care for the child, leading to the charges.
